2 extended partitions in one disk

I'm having some problems. My main OS is Win98. I don't know if the
second partition came about while fiddling with Partition Magic 4 or
after installing Red Hat Linux 5.2 (and using its disk partition
software).

Now I can't get rid of it. Win98 works fine, scandisk can't see any
problems at all. Partition Magic immediately quits with an error so I
can't use it. Norton disk doctor (v.2 for win95 but in DOS) sees it
but can't fix it.

What do I do?

BTW, the 2nd extended partition seems to be wrong since the primary +
1st extended = 8Gb (total capacity of HD)

I had a similar problem, however i couldnt even boot linux after i
fiddled with mounting....anyway, to fix my problem i had to use fdisk in
linux, remove the partition and then re partition, reinstall linux, and
re-format.... perhaps you wont have to, but if worse comes to worse....

Get GDISK from Symantec's Ghost download area. It analyses the MBR/EBRs are
reports any problems. You can use the /raw option to see what things look
like.

The more I look at the finickiness of Partition Magic like this, where
it can't handle something this simple. Then I see that the good old
standard Fdisk which comes included with the OS can handle these
problems without blushing, I just have to shake my head and say, "Come
on guys, get to know Fdisk, it's not that difficult!".

For Woz's sake, BE CAREFUL how you delete partitions with either of
RH's partition editors. I managed to totally scramble my extended
partition when I tried to delete the Linux partitions last week.
Maybe this time around I'll make a backup before I try it again... and
it would probably be a good idea to try it during the day with a lot
of caffeine in me, rather than at 3AM after a hard day of work.

The problem is that FDISK only lets you create and remove partitions
without letting you edit or specify start/end location. It's fine as
a setup tool, but useless as a repair/customization tool.

But people are using Partition Magic as a setup tool mostly these days.
