Have you dealt with KC Computers before?

I would be interested in any feedback from people who have purchased
items from KCC and Kevin Chalker who advertises on the net. I am
looking to buy a motherboard and CPU.

> KC COMPUTERS
> 10 Jacaranda Court

> kcc@pt.com

KCC doesn't accept MC or VISA (and I don't have a Discover card which
he takes) which worries me a bit since I've always done mail order
always with plastic to give me a level of protection. We are talking
about a non-trivial amount of money here (to me, at least). He will
take cash, money orders or bank checks for COD.

Kevin suggested I ask on the net about KCC to allay my concerns, so I
welcome any advice/feedback. Please note that I am NOT implying
anything negative about KCC with this post.

You can post here or e-mail directly. To ensure your privacy I will
not forward any e-mail sent to me directly (unless you ask me to) to
anyone interested in the replies I get.

Thank you very much.

I dealt with Kevin Chalker earlier this year and I will say from my
dealing that he is *100% professional*. He knows what he's talking
about...and really delivers.

This comes from a person who was shafted by EVERY SINGLE dealer EXCEPT KC
Computers.

Earlier this year...

I ordered a monitor from Elite - a "used" one was sent to me... and they
refused to pay for shipping of the new one...

I ordered a 340 mb harddrive from Harddrives USA and a used one (with pirated
software) was sent to me. They paid for shipping on the new on though. :)

KCC was the only one who actually delivered as promised. ( I bought a
motherboard, cpu fan, and case from him) - Furthermore, he also sent me a
free floppy disk cover to go along with my case because I don't have a
5.25" drive to go into the bay!

He's a great guy. I think you should deal with him. Any other purchases
I make will go through KCC.

Oops. I think I missed that part.. I don't have a Discover either, so I
mailed KCC a check in the amount of $750... and he still delivered!

sorry for the extra posting guys...

I just wanted to second this. A few months ago I did business with him on
various items totalling more than $3,000 (I can't remember the exact figure),
and he was very reliable in service. There was a shortage of ATI GUP cards
from his supplier for a short time, and he went out of his way to get them
for me. Btw, this was pre-paid (because of the size of the order) - so that
speaks for his honesty.

Two thumbs up.

All new cases come complete with a FULL set of drive bay covers!

No. The case I ordered has 3 5.25" drive bays, and 2 3.5" drive bays.
The case came with 2 5.25" bezels, and 2 3.5" bezels because it is
naturally assumed that you're gonna have at least ONE drive to put in
there... so the manufacturer leaves out one 5.25" bezel as "standard."
(because most people have a 5.25" floppy or tape backup)

My problem was... I don't have a 5.25" drive... I only have a 3.5" drive.
So, Kevin was gracious enough to send me a 5.25" bezel FREE - and he even
paid for shipping... 2 day express...

Believe me... I'm not *that* dumb. I built my PC from the ground up using
only mail-ordered parts... Sorry if everyone on the net misunderstood me.

email if you want more information on KCC. Seriously, every other company
screwed me over. I'm still in a battle with Elite (over why the hell I
have a shitty monitor.)

Actually no I haven't, but....

I sent email to him once asking if he does business at a store of some
sort and received no reply. The reason I sent him that email was to
see if I could visit him. You see the store is in Penfield, NY, which
is about 15 minutes away from where I live, Pittsford (another suburb
of Rochester).

Since I will be going back next week, I guess I can check up on them
if you wish for me to. To see if it's a store/home/garage? *shrug*
I really don't know since they never replied to me. They do in fact
have a great number of posted ads on the net though, which made me
quite curious as well.

I hope this cross-post dosen't annoy to many people.

I am on there mailing list and when ever I have asked for Info the
replies have always been swift.

I have never bought anything from them but based on there responce times
I'd say they are pretty good.

I'm sorry, but I sell PC's and I've never seen a case recently that didn't
have all the panels intact. As you say, the user may not have any 5 1/4"
drives, so why would the manufacturer short change you by one panel?

At least KC got you squared away, but I'm not sure you should have had the fuss
in the first place.

I noticed that in his email he mention that the phone no. is only for
evening on weekdays and whole weekends, which leads me to wonder if he
is doing part time or what. But if he is that good I wouldn't care where
or how he organise his store.

I have an external modem(2400).
I like this modem, but I have a new 14.4K modem.
It is a Hayes compatable, and I have the original box.
Also, I will give a cable for the modem.
