I have a problem with shutting down pc, Win95 is the os. The problem is that when I try to shut down, it locks up at the "Windows 95 is preparing to shut down" picture before it tells you that it is safe to shut down window. Is there a way to fix this????

Is there a way to fix this???? Have you a hard drive configured as a slave on the same IDE port as a CDROM drive configured as master? This will cause the problem you are experiencing.

I assume you have done a scan disk. I assume you have gone to safe command prompt and removed all *.tmp files that build up with incorrect shutdowns. I would refresh the files with the Windows 95 disk. I would also refresh the Service Pack 1 files as well. If you still get a problem refresh the files again but say yes to replacing the later files with the earlier ones then add the Service Pack 1 again. You will get only one problem in that it will ask for LPT.VXD. Point it back to the Windows\system directory for this and it will be happy. The Service Pack will then refresh it. Hope this helps.
