I have a SB Audigy Gamer with WinXP Pro. I have the latest drivers and patches for both. This is all connected to a Klipsch 4.1 speaker setup. The problem is that when I perform the surround speaker test from the Creative Surround Mixer's "Speaker" tab in Advanced Settings, I hear each speaker pos and number correctly, but my rear left is ALWAYs louder (noticably). I have fiddled with all the settings I can find, made sure the wiring is correct, etc. but can't figure out why this one channel is noticibly louder than the rest. I suspect my Klipsch speaker connections (inside the speakers themselves) are a bit loose (as I have to wiggle the cord to get the connection "just right", else no sound out of that particular speaker), could this be the problem? I would think so, but the remaining 3 speakers are quieter than the rear left. Thanks,

I don't know what the problem is, but if you have to "wiggle the cord" to get the connections working properly, that's a real good place to start, since that's clearly wrong! Wiggling the cord sometimes fixed it. But by switching the cords from one speaker to another I found that the speaker was not at fault and the trouble really seemed to be where the cord plugged into the sound card. Pulling the jack out of the sound card, pushing it back in, and twisting it around had much more consistant results than just wiggling the cord. I have an SBLive Value, not an Audigy, but it sounds like a similar problem.

I experienced that also with my Audigy plantinum. It seems to me a problem with the test file as it doesnt show up with other test files (i.e. THX setup test on the X-Men DVD - It tests levels on all six channels using an AC-3 encoded file). I have a discrete 6 channel amp and separate speakers and I know the problem is not with them. So I just chalk it up to being yet another thing wrong with Audigy software. Since it doesnt affect music or DVDs for me I just ignore the difference in that one speaker since it only happens with the test button. Unless you are having level problems with that speaker I would ignore it.
