LIM 4.0 EMS question.

My Taiwan-clone EMS card purports to be LIM 4.0 compatible, and it does support non-volatile memory blocks, for example. But the driver it came with doesn't allow any specification of page frame or addresses to in-/exclude like true LIM 4.0 drivers do. If possible, I would like to take advantage of LIM 4.0's memory mapping features to use some software I found which would give me access to DOS UMB's. My question is, would a different driver allow me to do this, or is this a hardware limitation? And if another driver would work, where would I find one? Would QRAM, for example, be useful here? Or am I basically out of luck with this? Any and all replies most apppreciated. Chris Vaughan Indiana University cdvaugha@ucs.indiana.edu

There's a *free* program called QTEST which is available from Quarterdeck to test your system to see if QRAM will do you any good. You might try finding a copy. A *lot* of EMS board claim "LIM 4.0" compatiblity by having a driver that supports the 4.0 *calls*. But if the *hardware is only 3.2 compatible, you can only establish the single 64k page frame and not map to locations outside it. Yours is likely such a board. -- Leonard Erickson leonard@qiclab.scn.rain.com CIS: [70465,203] 70465.203@compuserve.com FIDO: 1:105/51 Leonard.Erickson@f51.n105.z1.fidonet.org (The CIS & Fido addresses are preferred)
