What 486motherboards work with Buslogic 542B SCSI

I'm having trouble making a BusLogic (formorly BusTek) B542BT
bus-mastering SCSI host adapter work with my 486DX-33 (Pioneer
486WB/33 with OPTI write-back cache).
I suspect the DMA.
Some of the diags that run under DOS crash.
When I use it under SCO Xenix (2.3.2GT + UFN + xnx339), everything
works fine until I load X (Roell's -- ported by Per Linquist). Then
it crashes within minutes.
This is also the case with non-GT Xenix on the same board (which is
non-scsi, and in theory, shouldn't even try to access the board).
I'd really like to make this work with my current motherboard, but may
entertain buying another one that I __KNOW__ will work.

This suggests that you have memory problems, caused either by marginal SIMMs or a motherboard with ringing/noise on the memory bus. In either case only substitution will find the problem if this is true. I've never found a diagnostic package that would test things as well as just booting and installing SCO UNIX. -- Mike Squires (mikes@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu) 812 855 3974 (w) 812 333 6564 (h) mikes@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu 546 N Park Ridge Rd., Bloomington, IN 47408

Not so long ago I went thru several motherboards in search of one that operated properly with more than 16MB main memory. I never found an ISA board that would pass a through memory test program, let alone Unix under load. I ended up with an EISA motherboard. The EISA motherboard has been running ODT with 32 MB for some time. -- Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX ...!tektronix!reed!omen!caf Author of YMODEM, ZMODEM, Professional-YAM, ZCOMM, and DSZ Omen Technology Inc "The High Reliability Software" 17505-V NW Sauvie IS RD Portland OR 97231 503-621-3406

This will blow you sky high on a Unix or Xenix system, but frequently works just fine under MSDOS. I've seen several cheap clone boards come with cache RAM that's 5ns too slow for the board's specs. The symptom was unpredictable crashes, usually within minutes of booting. -- Karl Denninger (karl@ddsw1.MCS.COM, <well-connected>!ddsw1!karl) Data Line: [+1 312 248-0900] Anon. arch. If this were the problem, wouldn't it show up without the SCSI board?
BTW, I have 70ns 4megX9 simms.

If this were the problem, then it should be a problem with or without
the scsi board.
