It might, actually. But you may not want to use that resolution...:-)
For X (and for most other window systems) you may want to reserve some
off-screen storage to cache fonts and small pixmaps. If you go to
1152x900x64k on a 2MB frame buffer, you have nothing left over, which
means blitting characters over the ISA bus. The best theoretical
performance would then be that of a passive monochrome frame buffer on
the ISA bus. With font caching you transfer META information, which is
independent for example of the font size (unless you run out of
off-screen area).
