Word to WordPerfect translation

I recently translated a Word 5.0 file into Wordperfect 5.1 for the
IBM by first saving the file as a WP file and then using Apple File
Exchange. it came out fine, including the footnote numbers in the
text and the printed footnotes at the bottom, but the footnotes at the
bottom didn't have the numbers printed next to them. Is this just a
bug in the way Word saves the file or in the transfer process, and
thus I should just live with it, or should I do something differently?
anybody used any more sophisticated translation programs?
thanks for any replies.
