Hi! This is a qustion I need the all-powerful Net to help me with...at
work, we have some secretaries who for the past few years have been
doing all their work on Quark Xpress on Compact macs. (Shudder.) I
guess we have maybe nine or ten copies kicking about, each copy with its
associated 1-3 years of work in the machine with it or on floppies. The
problem is, we are trying to standardize word processing packages
throughout the company, and while I love Quark as a page-layout program,
these ladies are using it as a memo word processor, with the *very
occasional* use of its item-placement and box tools. The program is far
too expensive ($550/copy) and too optimized for Mac II's and up to be of
any more use to me in this role. Here's my question:
Does ayone know of a) a cheaper alternative to QUark XPress, since all
these ladies are doing is writing and using the text item placement and
box tools? We have tried word, but trying to manually place a paragraph
with it is painful, and it is just too limited. We are looking at Aldus
Personal Press, but ae looking for all possible solutions. Second
question: Does anyone know any way of getting data *out* of Quark other
than grabbing just the text story by story or imaging each page as EPS?
I shudder to think of what I'm going to be told if I tell them that they
have to individually grab and reformat each document from the last two
years.
I eagerly await any replies to shower with kudos and gratitude. :-)
