Yes, I've encountered that bug too.
I've reported it to NCSA twice, but I think they don't work
on DataScope any more because the new program NCSA Collage has most 
of NCSA Image's and NCSA DataScope and PalEdit's options.
What's missing is DataScope's Notebook :-(((.
My ``solutions'' are: 
- use an older version of DataScope (if you want the aboutbox/helpinfo),
- don't select the About menuitem (ha-ha),
- use SpyGlass Transform (commercial software),
- use NCSA Collage (if you don't need the Notebook),
- complain to NCSA and ask them to update DataScope (I would
  like to keep on using DataScope because it's compact/fast/nice/...).

The bug occurs on ``all'' Macs.
