The act of dragging the files "System" and "Finder" to the same folder should cause the system to bless that folder without any additional work. Of course, you'll need a few other files in there for the system to actually boot. > And on a pre-system 7 installation you shouldn't have more than one > System Folder on the same disk (Pogue&Schorr, page189). Yes. Otherwise, there's no way of knowing which will be blessed. You can, however, work around the problem. On my SE, I've got both 6.0.8 and 7.5.5 on the drive. To allow dual-booting, I created a "disabled" folder in each system folder. When I want to switch systems, I drag the "System" file into the disabled folder (which un-blesses the system folder) and then drag the other OS's "System" file out of its disabled folder (which blesses that system folder) and restart. Works without a hitch. > And the Startup Disk control panel - if you are trying to use that - > doesn't work on a Mac Plus. It's PRAM memory isn't big enough > (Pogue&Schorr, page 192). More to the point, the boot ROM doesn't use PRAM to find the system. It has a hard-coded search order. First it searches the floppies, then (I think) any hard drive attached to the external floppy port, then the SCSI bus, starting from ID 6 and moving down to ID 0. The first device it finds with a blessed system folder gets booted. (This is why you can boot a CD - the internal hard drive is normally ID 0, and external CD-ROM drives are typically ID 3 or 6.) -- David
