We have a bunch of Macs, several running sys 7.0.1 w/1.1.1,
several running sys 6.x with the Sys 7 Printer driver, which
share 2 LaserWriter IINT's with SUN's (SunOS 4.1.1 & CAP 5.0)
via a Gator box.
PROBLEM: When the Macs running 7.0.1 print, the job prints
normally UNLESS someone from the UNIX side submits
a print job. At that point, the Mac receives a printer
alert message something like "someone has switched off
the printer or the printer has gone off-line. Resubmit
the job or cancel?".
The only choice is to resubmit the print job, and since this only
seems to appear when printing a large job (when else?!), I either
have to munge the file originally printed (to not reprint the stuff
that was printed) or reprint the entire job.
The Macs running sys 6.x don't see this problem. This problem happened
on one system as soon as it was upgraded to sys 7.
On the UNIX side, "lpq" shows the AppleTalk job as waiting and shows
a UNIX job as active.
Any suggestions/clues? TIA!
