There are some shareware programs to print bar codes, but I think the
small price asked for MacEnvelope by Synex (about $50?) is worth it. It
comes preprogrammed with hundreds of label/envelope formats, lets you put
your own format in easily or modify the ones it has, maintains mailing
lists, mixes type styles, graphics (including EPS). And because it is set
up to print on an envelope inserted the "wrong" way, the FIMs it prints
(facing identification marks, needed by the post office to recognize the
bar coding type) go to the EDGE of the envelope as the post office
requires, even though your printer cannot print near that edge (probably
because it grips the envelope there and thus doesn't include that edge
within its imaging area). 

You can get the program from the usual mail order sources on a money-back
guarantee. Try it. You'll like it.

P. S.  I use MacEnvelope Pro for bulk mailings and love it, but it costs
about a hundred bucks more than MacEnvelope regular....
