You need the PMMU chip (MC 68851) for the Mac II to be able to use VM. 68030+ chips have the PMMU built-in, so they have VM "instantly" ;-) This chip is on Apple's price list. Connectix released MODE32, which enables 32-bit memory addressing on non- 32-bit clean (pre-IIci) machines. This product has been bought and is being distributed freely by Apple. It allows you to have more than 8MB of "real" RAM in your machine.
