FaxSTF questions

After some difficulty installing and using FaxSTF on a Mac IIx with a
SupraFAX v.32bis modem, I wonder if any glaring errors (or obvious suggestions)
are elicited from the following problems:

- When using the FaxMenu option (with Chooser pointing a Laserwriter, natch)
the "Print" options on the File menu do not always change to "Fax" as
documented. The system frequently hangs or crashes outright, whether or
  not "Fax" replaces "Print".
- The FaxMenu CDEV contains an undocumented check box, "Always fix File menu"

Advice, anyone?
