I'm looking at options for buying Adobe CS4 Design Standard in the UK. The cheapest authorised reseller seems to be via amazon for around 1,000. There is another seller called pb software (http://www.pbsoftware.co.uk/) which has a good price. Research shows that they're not an official Adobe reseller. It looks like they buy from the US then sell on in the UK (though I can't confirm this). I don't know how this works legally. I know a friend who ordered through them and has had no problems: the software works fine and he's even rung up Adobe (US) and his name is on their registration database. Does anyone know the full legal position on ordering US Adobe software and registering it in the UK? Any experiences? War stories?

War stories? It probably falls under "Grey market: selling. But who gives a shit really? If the copy you have after buying it from them is recognised by Adobe as valid then that's good enough for me. It would be like if you went over yourself and bought a copy from a shop there, if they refused to let you do that there'd be an almighty stink. The site itself might be on legally shaky ground, but I don't think you'd be personally.

It's not so much that I'm worried about being prosecuted, more that I'd lose 750 or end up with software that couldn't be activated, updated, etc. As there's a lot of money involved I need to know what my chances are of everything going smoothly. But an extra 250 seems a lot for a bit of peace of mind.

Educational pricing? 420 seems rather more rasonable! Adobe have broad qualification criteria; even schoolkids count: <http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/purchasing/qualify.html> Gwynne -- My real email is net, not line.
