Hi,
I have a Mac IIci. I downloaded ICQ 1.1.2 for 68k Mac. I double click it,
and it starts launching, then stops. It doesn't freeze...I get the title
in the menu bar of my desktop, then I am back in the finder. I have a PPP
connection running when I do this. I've tried it with the fewest
neccessary extensions. I've downloaded it again to make sure it wasn't
corrupted.
Can anyone help? I'd like to use ICQ and am very frustrated! Please email
me.
Thanks!

I have an LC520 that it works fine on. What version of the OS are you
using? Something makes me think your machine needs NortonUtilities (or
DiskEssentials) run on it, and/or re-installing the OS.

ICQ just takes a flipping long time to do all its server stuff the first
time. If you leave it alone for a while (like an HOUR) it might work.
That's what I finally had to do. After that it worked fine. (As fine as
this kludgy prog will run on a mac ;-=)

There are a couple of people with whom I keep in touch using it and I have way less latency on my low-end 8500 than they do on their high-end Pentiums. The folks at Mirabilis are notoriously slow about integrating features into the Mac clients, though. -- Dennis Cohen

No problems. If you have a powermac, you should use icq 1.2.7 ... runs quite well. I stopped using ichat because my Performa 6400 crashed a lot and because the Mac version isn't supported any more. Something makes me think your machine needs NortonUtilities (or > DiskEssentials) run on it, and/or re-installing the OS. I had the same problem trying to run ICQ on my LCIII 20/80. Double click the icon, the thing zooms open, and a moment later, zooms closed again. That's it. It's not sitting doing anything - and doesn't do an "unexpectedly quit" or anything. It works ok on my Quadra 840av though. So I think it might be the 030 chip.. maybe it needs to be at least 040? Nothing to do with the system, or anything though - my Quadra's hard disk is a copy of my LC's, so it's all the same. bye for now Travis -- www.taunet.net.au/travis

Sorry, I said in my last post I was on an LC520... that's got an 030. So
we know it'll work on an 030, which the LCIII has. So what version of the
System is actually on your machines?

I hope you had a Universal install if you just dragged the System Folder
onto another machine. Otherwise you might miss out on certain resources.

I heard it needs 7.5 - I have 7.1 so there you go...

Maybe they give less problems ... Hans
