The earliest point available for disabling a button is during the 'before'
state of the layout execution cycle.  You can test for this using 'IF (BEFORE)'
of placing ':(BEFORE)' in a case of.  'BEFORE' is a function that returns
true during the before part of the execution cycle and false otherwise.
 
Example:
 
if (before)
 
  disable button (<button name>)
 
end if
