Is it possible to send a fax via AppleEvents from FM Pro 2.0 via MicroPhone II? I haven't upgraded to FM Pro 2.0 yet, nor do I yet own MP II, so reading their manuals isn't an option. But, if this can be done I'll spend the money. If this isn't possible, then are there other Comm packages that support AE's? I've not done anything with AppleEvents yet. How do you learn about using or writing them? ...Buy a book or is it explained in each application's manuals. Thanks. Bob Carpenter

The easiest and best way for a non-programmer to understand and learn to
write Apple Events is with a program called UserLand's Frontier. They
have created a wonderful scripting environment that can control all the
programs on your mac that understand apple events. You can see the
way they are sent and received, and what information is needed when you
want to send them. They also have high level commands (glue) that call
the actual AE for a number of AE aware programs including Excel, PageMaker,
Microphone, FileMaker, Navigator, Hypercard, On Location, Stuffit Deluxe,
Claris Resolve, Claris MacProject, etc, etc.
On compuserve they have a very active area of people who do scripting
and can give you a hand. Everything the program does is with AppleEvents,
and none of the code is hidden. If you are curious about how anyone's
glue and scripts work just take a peek.

Why worry about Apple Events to send a fax from FileMaker Pro? Is the document you wish to fax some sort of Word, MacWrite II, or other kind of document? If you wish to fax a report from FileMaker Pro, look for some faxprint software, such as FaxSTF (what I use), FaxPro, or QuickLink Fax. Any of these will let you "print" to a faxmodem. Also, only MicroPhone Pro includes fax-related software, as best as I know. It includes a version of FaxSTF... Hope this helps! -Nick Nick Triantos Avoid bus errors... Take the train!
