Hi Dave,
 
I'm complete agree with your scenario, i prefer 3b, because
    1. Apple is the owner of MacApp.
    2. Everyone who is subscribing the ETO receive new updatings as it should
       be.
 
But ...
    1. Will Apple support in the future MacApp? I don't have seen any official
       statement.
    2. Is MADA agree?
 
I think the best is we wait until after NewYear (there are a lot of people
taking holiday during year-end).
