Dear people

What are the possibilites of using PC-haredware likes modems, printers
and monitors for the Macintosh?
Modem: Can I connect every modem to a Mac (by help of a linking device
or a switch)? Are there Mac drivers for all modems?
Monitor: Can I use every monitor on the market to connect it to a
Powerbook (again with help of a switch)l
Printers: same problems.
Main reason: PC-hardware is a lot cheaper

Do you know of FAQ-sites which deal with this questions?

Thank you for your hints
