I'll second this. I've owned a Duo 230 for about eight months
-- I bought it refurbished. In that time, I've replaced the
keyboard ($100 U.S., since I installed the Rev. E myself). The
serial port has come *loose* from the motherboard, and the latch
that holds the display down when the computer is closed has
broken off and needs replacement. 1-800-SOS-APPL quoted me
about $360 U.S. for replacing the motherboard and $90 U.S. for
labor. I was dismayed that they'll have to replace the entire
motherboard.

I'm going to check with the local dealers to try to better
Apple's price, but I'm not optimistic. Apple's just now
changing their marketing focus from expanding their customer
base to serving existing customers real well. If Apple expects
to keep customers like me, whose computers are not expense
account toys but workhorses for home use, they're going to have
to design better hardware and charge reasonable rates.

Can any Apple dealer offer a fix that is better than swapping
the entire motherboard? How much does AppleCare on a 230/80
run?

And a current AppleCare contract :-(
