Running CW6 and CW7 - known problems?

Before I file a bug report I wanted to see if this was perhaps just an unsupported configuration... I have both CodeWarrior 6 and CodeWarrior 7 installed. The main project is still in CW6 format while I wait for other developers to upgrade. Sometimes after running CW7 (for another project) I'll open our project in CW6, do a build, click the menu bar over by the apple menu and -crash- the IDE with error type 1. Another symptom is that after this the Apple menu is hosed - none of the folders or folder alii (e.g. Control Panels) show sub-menus after this crash. It also can often lead to a Finder crash. This happens both under 9.1 and 9.2. CW7 can also crash in this manner, reproducibly. When CW7 crashes it almost always brings the Finder down. Is this a result of using CW6 after CW7 has been installed and just a sign that one "shouldn't do that", or does it deserve a bug report? OTOH if others have used CW6 and CW7 from the same startup disk without seeing this then the bug must lie elsewhere... Thanks for comments, Christopher

I've ran CW 6 and CW 7 (and CW 5.3) on the same machine since CW 7 came out and even before that. I've also ran them simultaneously at the same time. My first suggestion is you go to the preferences and trash the Metrowerks preferences and see if that cures the ills. I'd also rebuild the desktop when booting up. If that doesn't fix it let me know maybe I can think of something else. It certainly works just fine. Ron -- Metrowerks wishes you a Happy New Year Ron Liechty MWRon@metrowerks.com
