Hi,
I have CodeWarrior Pro 6, the latest version, and I'm running on an Lime
iMac 266 MHz G3 with 160 MB RAM, MacOS 9.0.4, VM turned on +1 MB. I'm
running the MRJ 2.2.3 debug, + the MRJ 2.2 SDK both loaded in my MRJ
Libraries in my System Folder Extensions. swingall.jar is in there, also.
I've been stepping through the guide on "Targeting the Java VM" and was
trying, on page 67, the steps for generating a RAD project using the Java
Applet Wizard.
Each and every time I step through this, I get as far as hitting the
"Generate" button on the summary screen, and it starts to generate the
project, but then, just as it is loading the component palette, it crashes
with a MacOS Type 12 error (unimplemented core routine error).
I've tried quitting out of all programs, and increasing the amount of memory
the CodeWarrior IDE takes at start up to 30 MB, and the error still happens
in the same place, no matter what.
Below is a list of my System info and extensions & control panels, if it's
of any help. Any help that could be offered would be most appreciate,
please. Thanx.

A Type 12 error frequently means that someone called DebugStr() (a function that prints a string to the Mac's low-level debugger), and you don't have MacsBug installed. Grab a copy of MacsBug from <http://developer.apple.com/tools/debuggers/MacsBug/>, install it (just drop the MacsBug file into your System folder), restart, and try again. If you drop into MacsBug now, type 'stdlog' to log the state of the machine to a file called 'StdLog' on your desktop, type 'es' to force-quit CodeWarrior, and then send the contents of the StdLog file to Metrowerks as a bug report. Hope this helps, Eric -- Eric Albert ejalbert@stanford.edu http://www.stanford.edu/~ejalbert/

Hi all,
It took a couple of weeks of going back and forth with CodeWarrior Tech
Support, but I finally did find out what was causing this crash and thought
I'd pass along the info to anyone interested or who might come across the
same problem.
Read my original message below for more detail, but the basic bug was that
every time I would try and generate a RAD Swing project, or brought up the
Component Palette and switched to the Swing components, or brought up the
Component Catalog and then tried to click and drag any Swing component, it
would crash the program with a Type 12 error on the MacOS -- unimplemented
core routine error. This would crash the IDE completely, though the OS
remained intact, thankfully.
This befuddled me and Chris at Metrowerks Tech Support and we tried things
like trashing all CW prefs., extension conflict tests, etc. Still kept
getting the error. I gave them the complete profile on two different Macs
reporting the same error, as well as Macsbug StdLog's from each.
Then an Engineer at MW/CW clued Chris in -->> it was because I was using MRJ
2.2.3 *Debug* version for my JVM.
Apparently, CW Pro 6 has problems with how certain things are implemented in
the Debug version of MRJ 2.2.3; in this case, particularly, its use with the
Swing libraries. By switching back to regular MRJ 2.2.3, all ran fine, no
crashes.
I'm waiting to hear back from MW/CW Tech Support as to whether the problem
with MRJ 2.2.3 is in CW or is an Apple MRJ issue. I know that they are
filing a bug report with Apple on it. When I find out where the fault lies,
and who needs to do the fix, Apple or MW/CW, I'll post that here. I sure
hope whomever is responsible gets this fixed, though. The firm I work for
is a full 100% Java developer of a client/server product, and to not be able
to use the MRJ Debug version for testing hinders us quite a bit. My company
is considering standardizing on CW, so this would be very important to us.
Hope this helps anyone else out there running into the same issue.
