Please excuse if you've read this before. I'm reposting because I don't see the original I posted 2 days ago. The latest Mac version of Trolltech's Qt multi-platform GUI application framework has matured into a viable option for multi-platform development (v3.1.2). For example, Qt was used by Adobe to make Adobe Album. The problem is that Qt is only supported under Project Builder. Like many here, I prefer to use Codewarrior for my developement. When I asked Trolltech about Codewarrior support, I got the following response: Does Trolltech have any plans to suppport the Metroweks compiler? If so when? >Short answer: >We do not have any current plans to support Codewarrior (Metrowerks' >compiler and IDE). If we get help from Metrowerks to do do this, and/or if >there is a strong demand from many customers, we will reconsider. Apparently Trolltech had originally planned to support Codewarrior, but has run up against a technical barrier they need Metrowerks help to conquer. My question (aimed squarely at MWRon) is: Does Metrowerks have any plans to support the folks at Trolltech in their quest to bring Qt to Codewarrior? Since most old-school Mac developers use CW, wouldn't bringing Qt to Codewarrior would be a lucrative move for both companies? Also, if any developers here would like to use Qt under Codewarrior, please make your thoughts known to Trolltech (support@trolltech.com). Trolltech is a demand-driven company so if no one inquires, nothing will happen. Those of you who use or heard of Qt in these forums, what has been your experience? I've been using v3.1.2 and have been impressed by the large widget set, good widget geometry management, thorough documentation, and plentiful examples. Installation is a pain (un-mac-like) and compilation of the library is slow (under PB), but once you've gotten past that point, the learning curve is not too difficult. For reference. Here are links to trolltech and Qt: Qt for Mac: http://www.trolltech.com/products/qt/mac.html Trolltech home page: http://www.trolltech.com/ Thanks, John PS - I am not affiliated with Trolltech in any way. Just a developer who'd like to port his applications to Windows and Unix with a minimum of hassle.

I imagine they are thinking of something other than what you are
thinking of.

I've worked with TrollTech's support before and I'm not aware of any
problems they need our help for.

As far as I know there are no known problems with QT from TrollTech. I
recall a year ago that they used a Microsoft implementation of a
Standard Library function which was wrong and that was the only hang up.
I'm not aware of any other problems and I was under the impression that
people were successfully using it.

I don't know why it isn't working for you now, did you try it?

However, it's prohibitively expensive. If I were starting a cross-platform project today I'd give wxWindows a try. It's quite a lot like Qt except open-source and free. The documentation is very good. There are ports for MacOS8, MacOS9, and OSX/Carbon, with an OSX/Cocoa port on the way. It works with many compilers, including CodeWarrior. It's supported by a large and enthusiastic user base and the fact that you've got all the source code means any problems encountered shouldn't stay problems for long. http://www.wxwindows.org/

But it explicitly does not support exceptions, and that's a bit of a problem.

Steven Fisher wrote, about wxWindows: > I looked into this. But it explicitly does not support exceptions, and > that's a bit of a problem. Not true. The library itself does not use exceptions, but there's nothing stopping you from using code that does, nor from using exceptions in your own code.
