Does the drive "spin up"? ie can you hear it spinning? If no, you may have a problem with STICTION (sp?). It occurs when there is hot/muggy/ humid weather. I'm not an expert techie or anything like that but try tapping the drive lightly on the side. (AT OWN RISK). If the drive is spinning--who knows what? My avoidance solution would be to leave your computer on. Just power off the monitor. The drive will continue to spin and remain free of dust and other particles. BVH
