Startup floppies for System 7.1... help!

In an effort to help eradicate an outbreak of vNir and other viruses on my
campus, I'm trying to create a
startup floppy that I can put Disinfectant 2.9 onto. I'm using System 7.1
because that's what I'm running, and I know System 7 will work on all of
the computers I'm making this for. (some LC IIs, a Classic II, etc.)

However, the "Min system for all Macs" that the installer makes takes up
1350, leaving 40-odd K to put other stuff on. To make matters worse,
Disinfectant is 333K... obviously something has to give.
Does anybody know what I can remove from the System file? Or do I have to
bite the bullet and dig out my old 7.0.1 floppies...

Thanks!

(btw, email responses to johnel@audrey.linfield.edu would be appreciated,
as get to me faster than to the address in the header...)

You can always just distribute the Disinfectant init on the floppy containing
the min system folder - it's about 6k. If they start up with it installed
on that, they're protected. The application can be distributed on another
floppy, in case they want to scan. (Not real convenient with only one drive,
but that can't be helped...) If they have a hard drive, just give them the
App, and have them install the init with that.

If you can ftp, then get a hold of min-system-installer-10.hqx off of
sumex. It is in info-mac/util directory. I believe it should do the
trick of reducing your minimum system by 300-600K. You need not have
the finder installed on the floppy. But rename the application you need
to run 'Finder" and the system will automatically run it on startup
(thinking that it is the finder!!).

I myself have not used min-system-installer-10.hqx yet. I simply followed
the instructions in sys7-emergency-disk.txt, which tell you what resources
you can delete from the system file. I did this for 7.0.1. and now have a
Disinfectant emergency disk. Works fine! I plan to use the min-system-
installer-10.hqx program, if and when I get 7.1, which it apparently works
with. You can find the sys7-emergency-disk.txt file also at sumex in
info-mac/report. I recommend getting it - it has some useful tips.

Happy hacking!
Richard.
