I've now had 3 Apple IDE HDs fail with bad blocks (Drive Setup claims it was interupted, disk errors when copying files from a known good source). Can anyone recommend a utility (shareware or commercial) that will mask bad blocks in an IDE HD in a mac? [I have an old version of FWB's HDT that doesnt support IDE drives].... At $AU 410 for a 4g IDE it's not worth replacing the drives in the performa 5200s and powermac 6360s. Similarily, can anyone recommend a formatter that will format non apple IDE drives in performas? [and where can i find 500-1g ide drives in australia at a reasonable price] all responses via email pls andy@arch.usyd.edu.au Andrew

Andrew, IMHO masking bad blocks is handledby the drives internally and you should never need to mask them with a HD tool. If you encounter bad blocks on an IDE drive there must be another problem, or the dive is totally defective. -Thomas andrew winter <andy@arch.usyd.edu.au> wrote: > I've now had 3 Apple IDE HDs fail with bad blocks (Drive Setup claims it > was interupted, disk errors when copying files from a known good source). > > Can anyone recommend a utility (shareware or commercial) that will mask > bad blocks in an IDE HD in a mac?
