I, too, put netinfo-alias handling into smail3.1.25 - it's officially
part of smail3.1.26 and above ..
smail3 is currently at smail3.1.28, and available on the network:
Here's some info that Ronald S. Karr, the maintainer of smail3, sent:

Subject: Smail Release 3.1.28 is now available
Reply-To: tron@veritas.com
Organization: VERITAS Software Corp.
Smail Release 3.1.28 is now available. The patch from 3.1.27 to
release 3.1.28 is 57491 bytes (compressed). The compressed tar
archive file is 980537 bytes. This release is not very aggressive,
and makes only a small dent on my TODO list. A list of changes is
included later in this message.
HOW TO GET RELEASE 3.1.28
At the present time, the release is known to be available from the
following servers:
Server: uunet, ftp.uu.net
Files: /networking/mail/smail/smail-3.1.28.tar.Z
/networking/mail/smail/smail.diff-3.1.26-3.1.27.Z
/networking/mail/smail/smail.diff-3.1.27-3.1.28.Z
Location: Falls Curch, Virginia, USA
Contact: info@uunet.uu.net
Comments: UUNET has a 900 number, for access at very reasonable cost
from anywhere in the US. The cost is 50 cents per minute,
charged to your phone bill. The phone number is
1-900-468-7727. Login is "uucp" with no passwd. All uunet
modems are Telebit modems, so they support most common US
modem protocols.
Canada: (416) 368 6621
Contact: uunet-ca@uunet.uu.net
India: +91 842 238007
Contact: info%uunet-in@uunet.uu.net

~ftp/pub/packages/smail.diff-3.1.26-3.1.27.Z
~ftp/pub/packages/smail.diff-3.1.27-3.1.28.Z
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
Contact: ftp-service@msen.com
In addition, the mail has been sent to the following list of archive
servers, requesting that they obtain the new release. Please try one
of the above archives, or one of the below archives, if possible. If
you cannot, for some reason, get the patch file from any other source,
then I can E-mail it to you. To get a patch from me, send mail to:
smail-patch@veritas.com
I will not send the entire release by E-mail. If you need to get a
complete release, or if you need to upgrade from release 3.1.25 or
earlier, you should get a complete tar archive from one of the
official archive sites.
Archive sites that are known to have release 3.1.27:
Server: FTP.FU-Berlin.DE [130.133.4.50]

pub/unix/mail/smail/smail.diff-3.1.26-3.1.27.Z

Comment: (From Vera Heinau): I wish to point out that the lines to
Germany are sometimes (always ? ;-) very slow so people from
overseas might prefer other servers.

Try it, you'll like it.
And it seems to be working, as is, under NS 3.0 - but (warning) I haven't
tried to recompile/install it under NS 3.0 - I'm still using the NS2.1-compiled
stuff under NS 3.0.
