Recently, we noticed that under NeXTSTEP 3.0, Pixel Magician's fopen()/fclose() functions do not use the same buffers as they did under 2.x, possibly because certain system calls in the shared library now use more or less streams than they did previously or perhaps because fopen()/fclose() have themselves been changed. Thus, under 3.0, some code that relied upon these buffers being used in a certain order no longer works. This "bug" heavily impacts the reading of DCX files and will cause most DCX files to image improperly under 3.0, if at all. Clean files in other formats should not be affected, but marginal or erroneous files may be affected since some of the error handling routines depend on the behavior mentioned above. This dependence on knowledge of the exact stream buffers being used has been removed (at the cost of a few hundredths of a second in speed). The patch will be present in version 1.22, which will be available in mid-October. There is no known workaround. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Sincerely, Charles C.
