(Email to jcd@punch.aero.org bounced, so I'm posting.) >> the system goes through all the system test but does'nt give me a >> login panel? Well, I know what I did to get that to happen. I added some options to loginwindow in the /etc/ttys file to set PowerOffDisabled True, precisely as recommended in the NeXT documentation. It turns out that there is a line length limit in that file, which I exceeded, and loginwindow simply failed to run. I removed the option (in single user mode), and it worked. I put the option in root's defaults instead, and that works far better. Mark Adler madler@cco.caltech.edu
