The NeXT for all it's touted to be still does not have a decent communications' programs, decent fax software, decent word processor, few games, no music software of note, etc...All it has is potential. For example, Equation Builder is a great applications ( it's an equation editor). But, there's no word processor on the NeXt that supports inline pasting of equations. I'll be quite blunt: My GS has better support for virtually any application I use. Of course the NeXT could be in principle far better, but why is it taking years for decent faxmodem support? USR now has faxmodems and people are still testing stuff for Supramodems. And if you really want to get picky, try listening to ModPlayer on the NeXT and compare it to the GS's versions. The situation is even worse when compared to Windows. Athough Windows may not be the smoothest thing in town( in fact, as you noted, it really is not what you would call a good example of whatever...), there are good word processors for it, good Midi and notational software for it, etc...I've noticed a distinct similarity between the NeXT newsgroups and the Amiga ones as of late. I'm referring of course to those people who suggest beeging WordPerfect to support the platform. Has it ever dawned on people that it would be better spending money on people who don't need to be begged to support a platform. Even if WordPerfect came out with 6.0, there would be a point where the begging would have to start all over again. In short, don't put down Windows. It has what most people want, but not what programmers want. These are two different things. Until NeXT programmers realize that it is the users that count, and that most are not programmers, someone would be far better off with Windows than with the NeXT. Sorry to support Windows. This is the era of the consumer and not the era of high priced computing. NeXT prices are simply too high for what they offer to most people. Well, I guess it's time to get nasty letters from NeXT Canada again. Just to give them more ammunition: NeXT Inc. and most developers are thinking very short term. Mission critical apps will do them in in the longer term. They need to support small developers, lower their prices and get back to giving the world a reason a dream, not a super Mac.
