All the X11 R5 binaries with the exception of the PEX demos will run without
any problem under either the color or monochrome R4 Xnext servers ("mouse-X").
Those servers are the ones that currently work with the original Cubes and
color machines. The only change you need to make is to substitute the R4 fonts
directory for the R5 one, i.e., move X11/lib/fonts to X11/lib/fonts-R5 and get
a copy of the R4 fonts directory and put it in X11/lib.
So, if you get the old server binaries, you can use the rest of the R5
distribution as is. I run X on both our Cubes and our Turbos using the same
set of binaries (except the server). I use symbolic links to get the font
directories correct for the different machines.
P.S. I believe the R5 server is being modified to run on all machines, but no
completion date has been set.
