=>I'd love to know your secret. I was unable to backup a
=>Sun 4/330, running SunOS 4.1.1 to a NeXT 040 Cube, running
=>NeXTStep 2.1. The reverse direction also did not work.
=>
=>Could you provide a sample command for all of us??
=>
Here is our generic script (will work on most platforms) that we use for
remote dumps for a partition called /Users (level 0 dump!). This can be
tailored to whatever partition you like. Note that we use /dev/nrst0 instead
of /dev/rst0 for the device on the NeXT. This script also dumps the output of
rdump to a log. We use the following to dump:
rdump-users.sh TAPE_LABEL remotehost user
#!/bin/sh
TAPE=/dev/nrst0
RHOST=$2
RUSER=$3
LOG=dump_tape-user.log
rsh ${RHOST} -l ${RUSER} -n mt -f ${TAPE} rewind
echo " " >> ${LOG}
echo "**************************************************************" >>${LOG}
echo -n "Dump started: " >>${LOG}
date >> ${LOG}
echo "Start of $1-/Users=" >> ${LOG}
/etc/rdump 0usf 60000 ${RHOST}:${TAPE} /Users 2>&1 | tee -a ${LOG}
rsh ${RHOST} -l ${RUSER} -n mt -f ${TAPE} eof
echo "End of $1-/Users=" >> ${LOG}
echo -n "Dump completed: " >>${LOG}
date >> ${LOG}
