I've been dumping next's to sun exabyte for a couple months. > Is there something I need to know??? It seemed to run without errors. From my tests, it does seem to work. The only hitch is that you cannot restore those files on a Sun using SunOS restore command. You must use rrestore from a NeXT. restore on the Sun core dumps when it tries to read that dump block! We currently have one tape that has several dumps on it in succession: 2 Sun dumps, and 2 NeXT dumps. Restores off of both of them seem to work OK. BTW, there is another thing that tripped me up - you must specify a filesystem on the dump command line with NeXTs, while you can actually specify any directory with SunOS dump. Not giving an actual partition name (/export, or /, for instance) results in the wonderful bad sblock magic number message. -- David Lemson (312) 732-4741 FNBC Sys Admin (Summer) UIUC NeXT Campus Consultant(rest of the time) E-mail to: lemson@fnbc.com NeXTMail accepted
