[ Article crossposted from comp.sys.next.misc ] [ Author was Jeff Kight ] [ Posted on 31 Dec 1992 12:41:08 -0500 ] I have been cautioned that 3.0 might not work on an 030 cube...is there anything to this? And if there is...why? Jeff
I am using an old cube 030 as a Printer and OD Server, and it works
fine.
It is so slow that I can not use it as a user machine, but, in fact I
could, of course.
No problemo since 3 month.
Build your disk and try.

Oh, it works fine, fine. And slow compared to what? Probably the configuration mentioned before (Printer and OD server) is stripped of memory. True, there were some pre-release 3.0 versions that were unusable but what comes in CD-ROM is perfectly fine if you just install it and compare against the same system you had before, i.e., an 030 not a 040. I've been using the beta version and then the released version since early summer without problems, without "noticing" a performance hit either. Configuration: 030, mono cube, 24MB, and 600MB disk.
