Hi all, I was trying to get a SLIP link running (with Louis's DialUp-IP), and that all went successfully. I was able to ping and ftp between computers over the serial link, but I was unable to nfs mount one filesystem to another. I expected this to be quite slow, but when I tried to mount, the client computer (the one I executed the mount command on) just hung. The server ran fine, but no packets seemed to be coming across. I could still ping the (hung) client from the server, so it was not completely dead. The client was 3.0PR2, the server was 2.1. I am guessing I just have to set some timeouts to unreasonably high values. Has anyone nfs mounted over SLIP, and if so, could you share you mount command?? I have sucessfully mounted two remote disks (on HP Bobcats at the
University), on my NeXT via dialupip. The response is adequate (i can
display or print dvi-files stored there, or copy moderately sized
files in a reasonable amount of time -- comparable to fetching them
in emacs with ange-ftp).
Here is the result of my nidump fstab .:
hardy{/src}[92> nidump fstab .
/dev/sd0a / 4.3 rw,noquota,noauto 0 1
golem:/ /Net nfs rw,bg,soft,net,intr,nosuid,noquota,retry=4,timeout=16,rsize=512,wsize=512 0 0
lynx:/ /Net nfs rw,bg,soft,net,intr,nosuid,noquota,retry=4,timeout=16,rsize=512,wsize=512 0 0
If you make a file similar to tha last two lines and
niload fstab . < filename
(asroot, of course), you should have no problem, provided the
/etc/exports on the "other" machines lists the machine-name of your
NeXT.
