How to map bad blocks on a scsi disk?

I've recently run into my first disk errors on my cube's scsi disk and am looking for ways to map them to a bad block area on the drive and out of the file system. I've looked at disk(8) but this does not seem to offer a means to do what I wish unless the verify option would work--since this is my only disk, I'd rather not learn about this by experimentation. Any other utilities out there to help me out here? NeXT's sysadmin manual and the various NeXT answers that I have do not seem to point out anything. --Larry -- Larry Fahnoe Cellular One 612/832-7616 7900 S. Last eve I wrote about disk problems: >I've recently run into my first disk errors on my cube's scsi disk and am >looking for ways to map them to a bad block area on the drive and out of >the file system. I've looked at disk(8) but this does not seem to offer a Vince DeMarco <vince@whatnxt.cuc.ab.ca> sent me mail suggesting the reasb utility that he'd ftp'd from NeXT; I got it and it worked. Not being the trusting sort, I did recompile before running it. My system is still running OS 2.0, and the drive in question is a Segate Wren VI. Robert Lutwak <robert@neon.mit.edu> wrote me saying that he had tried the same program on his Wren VII, but with no luck. Robert did not say what version of the OS he was running, and I'm not sure that it matters. Larry - We've been developing an application that does exactly what you want. It's called SCSI Reassign Blocks and it does SCSI level bad block reassignment. It only works on drives that have allocated spare blocks during the initialization process. Unfortunately, we were burned very badly by our beta testers who did not return any evaluations on our software so we have decided to not continue further beta testing. Hopefully the product should be out by the end of the year, if that's any consolence...
