Here's a (so-far-as-I-know) undocumented feature that made its way to me via Eric Larson at NeXT. To make the login window bounce around the screen when idle, do the following as root: dwrite loginwindow MoveWhenIdle YES this does not interfere with screen dimming. it is only available in 3.0. Hm.. didn't work for me.. I am using adim. Are you sure this doesn't interfere with the bouncing? How long does the machine have to be idle before the window starts moving? (If I know that it is supposed to move after 30 seconds, I don't have to wait 5 minutes when I experiment with different settings ;-) Thank you in advance for the info!
