I am sittinig here with two Miniscribe 9380s harddisks. None of them
is functioning. I have been told that the company Miniscribe is no more.
Is there anyone out there that knows where I can find a service manual
with schematics. I want to try to fix them before they goes into the
garbage.

Any help is appreciated

Regards
Rolf

Rolf,
I have the same problem. I'm about to send them back to CSC for
repair/replacement. Mine are our of warrenty, so its pay up more money.

Just for peoples info. both drives where replacements for the two
origonal drives.... Anyway, if your prepared to pay alittle, they'll fix them.

I'm hoping that mine get replaced with something other than Miniscribe
that work of cause....:|

I have had miniscribe problems for years. Try getting into
your chassis and physically turn the little motor pin looking
thing with another little piece screwed onto it then turn it on.
If it spins up you won't have the problem again until you power down.
The Apple drive I have automatically parks on the same sector every time
and that sector sticks. I had mine serviced and it went bad again after
nine months. I've since gotten an external drive and switched mechanisms
leaving the screws off of the now external Miniscribe so that I can get to
it easilly when I need to power it up. Sure wish someone would offer
a way to low level format and change the sector it parks on. I'm just
guessing with the formatting idea but the above solution of turning
the drive works quite well. One can even leave the drive on twenty-four
hours if you use it every day all day. Hope this helps.

I too have had one of these drives fail on me. Turned out to be the controller
card. I'll be getting the drive back on Fri. The original drive was $800 +
]$220 to get it fixed. For $1,000 today I can buy a fast 512mbyte drive!
BTW, I sent the drive to Maxtor (or whoever it was that bought out the
remains of Miniscribe) while it was still under *warranty*. They sat on
it for a year. It took to threatening letters from a lawyer to even get
the drive back (still unrepaired). I turned it over to a local disk drive
repair shop to get it fixed. In the past 1-1/2 years I've had about four
hour's total use on this drive. I will never make such a purchase again!

Was it CSC ? If thats the way they handle things maybe I should give
up with trying to get them repaired..

Can you give us a report on the local drive repairer ? They may be
a better bet than the above. Locally we don't seem to have Disk Drive fixers -
problem with having Marketing/Box pushers for the majority of the companies
out here.
