Using a Nokia 8250 with a Palm Vx

I am trying to use my Palm Vx to send and receive email using my Nokia
8250 and my Bigpond account. I have followed the instructions that I
found at http://www.mywirelesspalm.com/
to set it up.

When I tap on "Connect" from the Network Preferences screen it does
seem to attempt to connect, I see the message "Signing On" on the
Palm, but then I keep getting the error "Error: PPP timeout (0x1231)"
on my Palm.

Has anyone else got this working? Any tips or advice?

Thanks.

Craig

This may seem silly, but have you got IR enabled on your phone?

Yep, I sure do.

For an alternative view, and also a list of some of the apps available, have
a look at http://www.woggledog.com/?subject=connect

You need to have the data service enabled on your SIM card. I did this with
Optus and I can connect to my ISP using my 8250 and Vx.

I just got an 8290 from voicestream and it worked right out of the
box. Took, literally, a minute to put in the phone number and hit
connect. I had asked the guy at voicestream about the data service
(which is 20 something a month extra) and he told me that I did not
need it, that it would work fine just using it's regular minutes
calling the isp.

JGB:

with your Nokia 8290---what was the manner of the connection to your Palm? Was
it cable or IR? (If cable, where did you buy it?)

And then, the big question: would this also work with the Palm m505?
Thanks
Mahl

Voicestream/8290 = US. Definitely not what Craig is talking about.

The problem is that he hasn't enabled data with his mobile company, I'm
almost sure of it. I remember getting a vodafone prepaid SIM in NZ and
being able to use data on it no problems, and so assumed it'd be the same in
Australia, but every carrier in Australia (as far as I'm aware) require data
to be enabled (for free) before use. Pretty stupid, but I guess similar to
the way SMS sending was disabled as standard 3 or 4 years ago.

No, Telstra has outgoing fax and data as default. Including on communic8

That isn't completely correct. A friend of mine had to get it enabled for us
to make calls on his Telstra SIM a few months ago. Not sure how long he'd
had the SIM for though. Perhaps since he got his SIM it changed.
