Compaq and Apple build comparable systems in both design, engineering and construction. I have a Dell XPS90 and a PowerMac 8100. There is no comparison. The Dell is made of cheap plastic, everything flexes, the metal frame bends under pressure. The 8100 is solid as a tank, quiet and sturdy. One pays for that level of contruction. Even Dell sells its corporate-grade systems for $1000-1500 more than the XPS model using the same cpu! (BTW, that puts many of Dell's omniplex and optiplex systems in Apple price ranges) WT
