Einstein never claimed to have 'discovered' relativity, he 'merely'
found the right way to prove it exists. Apple on the other hand tends
to claim it invented features for the MAC long after other companies
had similar ideas/products.
: The PICT file format, one of the things that make the Mac such a great
: graphics/desktop publishing platform, is an embodiment of this idea.
: For those who don't know, the PICT format is a vector graphics/bitmap
: format that allows you to store arbitrary number of graphics objects
: in a standard form, and that can be accessed from just about any
: Macintosh graphics/word processing/desktop publication application.
Sounds suspiciously like the IFF format which not only covers graohics,
but ANY type of data you would like. AFAI one could even combine
a number of them in one file (bitmapgraphics with text, audio, structured
graphics etc.)
: is no other system wide support of a file format of such nature in any
: other system that I know of. (Maybe the SGI?)
Again IFF is just the same, even better and I believe it even existed
before the PICT format.
: And if you put all the technology that have been or are coming out
: from Apple: QuickDraw 3D, QuickTime, QuickTime Music Architecture,
: QuickTime VR, OpenDoc, ... while non of these are completely new in
: and of themselves, I believe Apple did make a genuine contribution to
: the industry in each of these areas, and put together, provides a
: pretty compelling picture of technology.
The point of the original poster was that apple _DID_ bring out _NEW_
technology. I said they did not, i do not make the claim their stuff
is no good, just that they do not do anything revolutionairy other then
kick ass marketing. :)
