That does make any sense. I have a Dell P90 system with 256K cache, 32MB
RAM, EIDE 1gig drive and a fast Matrox WRAM PCI card sitting right next
to my PMac 8100/80 with 256K cache, 32MB RAM, and a FAST SCSI2 1 gig
drive. Running NT 3.51 and VC++ 2.0 & Symantec C++, the PC is slower at
compiling code than the Mac using Codewarrior. It is slower running
Pagemaker (except for loading it and various files). It is faster running
MS Word 6.0 compared to the Mac running WordPerfect 3.0. Illustrator and
Freehand are both 2x-4x faster on the the Mac. The same numbers hold true
when I compare the PC using Win95 build 490.

If you want to get really scary, my RS/6000 250 at work with 64MB RAM and
NO l2 cache outperforms the Mac, the P90, and my Gateway P120 work system
compiling code. It uses a lowly 66Mhz 601!

Overall, I have not been very impressed with Pentium systems. Quality
varies wildly. (My XPS90 is faster than my Gateway P120!) and systems are
becoming so standardized on Intel motherboards that they are not that
different form having a single supplier for Mac's.

I use a wide variety of systems every day, and out of all of them the Mac
is probably my favorite (that would change if I could have a monster SGI
box on my desk<g>.) Linux is great. I love the philosophy behind it, and
I support it 100%, but UNIX is UNIX after all no matter what the flavor.
