Hmm, my computer is able to do ~25 pages per second when converting a
dvi file to postscript, and when I send that to the printer it prints
quickly. Of course it take a little while for the printer to warm up,
but I'm willing to bet it's 12ppm at 600dpi can beat a stylewriter
hands down after it is going.

Yes. The quality of output is *much* higher. After I had used my
school's NeXT printer to print off a paper, I decided to keep using it
instead of going back to my old inkjet. That kind of quality does
incur a penalty in processor use, and therefore speed in lower end
processors. Try showing two resumes to a manager, one from a
LaserWriter, one from an ImageWriter. I'm sure you get the point.
