There are various ways of managing a room of 20 macs without the risk
of getting the files rouined often. At Ease is the most primative
method of isolating users from vital system files. It is really a
pain for general users. I have seen systems on my campus that has
something programmed (possibly some scripts) that upon restart all the
files will be eliminated except the secretly selected ones and missing
files be installed from the network server. This system has worked
very well for years. It is much better than the At Ease which renders
the machines very much unlike monsders.

I have administered an SGI machine for more than a year, used Unix
for several years. For movice, I really recommend the Mac system
that I see. Unix is here to stay for many purposes, but not
for those who just want to type letters/resumes/etc and make them
look pretty with as little effort as possible.

For individual Macs, there are programs that perform security/
protection functions and they are reasonably cheap. At Ease is
available from Apple for free, right?

Cheers!

Jie
