Sorry about the misunderstanding. Anyway, the : : point was Mac Users have a smaller selection to choose from when picking : : software. In certain areas they are fairly equal (ex. word processing). : : In entertainment however they fall short. Sure you have a selection but : : it's noticeably smaller. Walk into any CompUSA and check out the : : software section. : That's a matter of market-share for the store. Mac-owners would comprise : about 1/10 of the customers, so only 1/10 of the store's shelf-space : caters to Mac-owners. Doesn't that tell you that Macs are basically an exception not the rule of home desktops. : The Mac product registry lists over 8,000 Mac-specific products (e.g. Mac : applications and hardware). This doesn't count games where the Mac *is* : behind, but not by as much as you appear to believe. Well, I don't follow the game scene too much. But from what I've gathered the Mac is pretty crummy in the game arena compared to PCs. For 1 obvious reason. PC users are in the majority, hence more programs are made for these users. : The word that *I* have gotten is that games programmers now consider the : PowerMacs to be the premier desktop games machines. Don't know about that. Ultimately, I believe it's a matter of opinion. : Since a $2000 complete 100Mhz 604-based multi-media system should be : available from Power Computing by Christmas (if not by next month), this : perception can only be reinforced. I'd guess that a 132Mhz System would : cost about $600 more. I still believe that PPCs will not be mainstream for quite awhile. : Hmmm.. $2600 for a multi-media PowerMac (including monitor and keyboard) : running on a 133Mhz 604, able to use a large portion of PCI 2.0 video : cards, etc. Sounds very affordable, there must be a tremendous amounts of tradeoffs though. For $5000+ now you can get a 9500/132. If Power Computing is selling the same processor for half that, in just a couple of months, then there must be a compromise somewhere. : A game-developer/player's dream machine, fer shure. It wouldn't be my dream machine, until they get out a large amount of software support for it. : Not bad for business use, either. I have to agree with you there. It's a great work machine.
