Possibly it will bury it. Probably it will not.

Of course, the HURD can run linux in user space. I forget the
technical name for it, but the HURD could run several kernels
simultaneously. Not necessarily all linux. I'll definitely be
checking it out if the newly released ext2fs support is found
to be reasonably stable.
