I don't agree. All they seem to have done is not actually make it impossible to run old apps. But this is probably because their only real selling point is the overstated difference in software availability. If they started over, then the fact would be they have less software than for the Mac (and they do have less software if you want a good GUI) > So, how are those motherboard upgrades coming for your Mac +? No. I never upgrade my Mac+ and I got 8 good years out of it, never having any problem with it not running new systems or application. I was still going strong when Windows computes had been forced into obsolesence. > And yes, we can argue what Apple "might" do- but the fact is they > haven't announced a port of Copland to the 680X0 architecture. Again, we have some speculation that Apple MIGHT abandon 680x0 with Copland against both the fact that Apple has not in past abandoned older platforms and the fact that MS has, and continues to, done just that. > I don't blame Apple for focusing on the PowerPC support, I just think > stating Apple (a hardware & software company) "orphans" fewer of its > customers than Microsoft ( a software company) is a bit erroneous. No it isn't. Your belief that Apple will do that doesn't mean they do it (or even that they really will). > >And exactly how does introducing a new computer prevent me > >from using the one I already have? I was able to sell my Mac Plus when Windows machines bought at the same time were worthless because Apple hadn't forced it into obsolecense. Of course anyone who worries about resale value has to accept the fact that the value will drop as soon as they buy it. The point is that, if it is supported, it will be useful long enough to get good value out of it. > As I said, if someone wants to write a letter, how is MS obsoleting > them? Keep your 286 and run Windows WRITE in standard mode if you > want. If they want to buy new software they need a new computer. The problem is that, if MS wanted to do the work, they wouldn't have to.
