No, it is just main stream and the previous image of a serious computer helps 
to sell it. Because there are much more PC's out there (especially in the USA) 
you are able to sell more games for it. Add the behaviour of the most PC guys 
to kick their old PC in the ass and buy a new one (maybe only a motherboard, 
more RAM and a bigger HD) if there's any game the old one could not run 
properly. As a PC game programmer you don't have to worry about slow PC's, 
just take the fastest you can get, make the game run smoothly on it and all PC 
owners run into the shops and switch to a faster PC. 
Ahh, the good old times of the C64 and AppleII, when there were programmers 
who could get the last bit of speed out of them. 

Effiency doesn't count today. :-(
